About Krups®

How does a family-owned company housed in a forge in the German countryside and specializing in scales become one of the world's leading manufacturers of kitchen appliances? How do they remain a renowned name in kitchen appliances for almost two centuries?

Simple:
·Providing the product customers want
·A quest for perfection
·Innovation

It's 1846, and the Mexican-American War rages in the North America. Elias Howe patents the sewing machine. Adolph Sax patents the saxophone. And the Krups family starts small. Josua Kortz has several friends working for him, including his nephew, Robert Krups. The latter's son, also called Robert, will turn the German forge into an industrial company.

Twenty years later, moving to larger facilities in Solingen signals the beginning of an international corporation, with products now being shipped to Holland and Switzerland. As the 20th century dawns, Krups becomes a leading manufacturer of scales. Despite the devastation wrought by the Second World War, the third generation of the Krups family launches the company with barely thirty employees. Fritz Krups, an experienced technician, quickly transforms a few original ideas into successful products.

With a keen sense of what the prosperous post-war market desires, Krups launches the first electric coffee grinder in 1956. Consumers enthusisastically purchase this new appliance Krups sells 1 million electric coffee grinders in their first year of manufacture.

The "3-Mix" mixer takes Germany by storm in 1959 and becomes the symbol for the modern kitchen and sets the standard for state-of-the-art products. As the 1950s draw to a close, one innovation after another keeps Krups on the cutting edge of household appliances. By 1967 Krups launches its first slicer.

The original ONKO (now T8) coffee maker and 1980s-introduced espresso machines satiate the German public's passion for coffee, and Krups extends its range of machines to include steam machines, electronically programmable models, and combination espresso/coffee machines.

Though Krups today is probably best-known for their outstanding coffee and espresso products, the product lines actually run the gamut from blenders to choppers, sandwich makers to toasters. Whether it's a breakfast buffet, afternoon tea, or dinner and cocktails with friends and family, Krups has a product that meets the need of the most discerning consumers all over the world.

After more than 160 years, Krups continues to be a leader in quality and innovation and a name that inspires trust in cooks, chefs (not to mention coffee drinkers!) the world over.
