All-Clad Story
What began in 1967 as a metals
manufacturing company specializing in coinage for the U.S. Mint soon shifted to
cookware when founder John Ulam, a gifted metallurgist, made a pan for himself
using a piece of leftover bonded metal. He crafted this pan using a
now-patented triple-ply roll bonding process, sandwiching highly conductive
metals like copper and aluminum between 18/10 stainless steel. The result? A
cook pan with unparalleled heat distribution and retention.
