The Best Cookbook
My recipe book collection is extensive yet i always reach for this one first. If I'm looking for something specific, this book sets the standard 1st choice for my best results. It'll take you inside the test kitchen revealing the countless hours (and materials) the test chef's have spent in order to refine recipes. It's full of rationales and education. They've done the work which means we don't have to.

Perfect for beginner or advanced!
Another of America's Test Kitchen's cookbooks. For those not familiar they test and retest and test again recipes before printing, many 50+ times. This makes the recipes almost foolproof. They also explain WHY they chose this ingredient or WHY they chose that pan. There are also wonderful tips on handling basic baking tools, 6 key steps to stir-frying, equipment comparisons, etc, etc. Besides being an abundance of information, ATK's cookbooks are just FUN to read!!

Foolproof
"America's Test Kitchen" takes the guesswork out cooking and baking explaining how and why the recipes work. If you can read, you can cook, and the illustrations and tips are extremely helpful. I especially like the different variations listed for many of the recipes. My copy has so many bookmarks it hardly closes. This is a perfect gift for anyone who cooks and a necessity for someone just starting out.

MUST-HAVE book for anyone who cooks!
I LOVE this cookbook, and I have a lot of cookbooks. For each recipe, they tell you why they make the recipe the way they do because they have tried it and tried it and tried it until it comes out perfect. There are really simple dishes like macaroni and cheese or more interesting items like braised short ribs with bacon, onion, and red wine. New cooks and experienced cooks alike can get a lot out of this book.
