Awesome Concept
There are several butter bells out there and they all work by the same principle, so I bought this one based on color and appearance. It performs exactly as described in keeping butter at a nice spreadable consistency. It holds 1 stick of a 4 stick package - 1/4 lb. of butter, which after softened at room temp, is packed into the bell. Another reviewer, somewhere, mentioned she wished she had purchased two butter bells so one could be in use while the other one was being cleaned. I agree. AFTER I had our bell, I saw one available now In the Chef's Catalog which looks like a traditional butter dish. From what I gathered, you just drop the stick in the dish, add the water "where ever", and you are good to go - no butter packing. Although it did not appeal to me esthetically, I probably would have bought it in lieu of the Le Creuset because of it's convenience. Given the circumstances, though, I love our butter bell!

Le Creuset all the way
This was a gift for my daughter who is big Le Creuset fan. At first I thought their items were very expensive, but after using them, I now think they are well worth the money and make cooking (my least favorite thing to do) a lot easier.
The Butter Crock is very useful, keeping butter fresh and spreadable without having to be refrigerated. It's easy to use-holds 2 sticks of butter. All you have to do is fill the bottom with cold tap water. It is a convenient size and fits on any counter. I highly recommend this for everyone!

Fantastic product!
When someone told me about a "butter bell", I thought it sounded like a completely useless item that no one would ever need - assuming it even worked. However I bought it as a gift for a friend who wanted one. I'm a total convert now! It works beautifully! The packed butter stays right in place without sliding and the water seal keeps it fresh without getting the butter wet.
I chose the Le Creuset model because I know their products are good quality and sturdy. The cobalt one I chose is a rich blue with a slight shade gradient that adds depth. Other products I looked at online were plain or seemed to be lower quality. This one is a little more expensive, but totally worth the money I spent.
Perfectly spreadable butter in an attractive little container that adds visual pop to your counter or table. You'll be pleased if you buy this!

Attractive and SO Useful!
I've been meaning to get one for myself for years. Can't believe I waited so long. We like real butter at our house. We also have an active 15-year-old son who burns calories like crazy. Having spreadable butter around for him to easily use adds a few needed calories. Having an attractive way to keep it on the counter while keeping it fresh: huge bonus!

A Perfect Gem
This butter crock has it all - compact size, gorgeous color, quality from my favorite brand name, and a waterline mark. Glad I bought it and will probably buy more as shower gifts.

I returned this product
I followed the instructions for the butter crock and when ready to use the butter - I lifted the lid and had butter floating in the water - I thought it was supposed to stay in the lid - It is in the process of being returned.

Much Better!
I am a butter girl so must have it available in spreadable form at all times. I had a standard glass butter dish and cover but the dish would get slippery and buttery as the weather got warmer, plus it was just messy. This product solves those dilemmas. It holds a whole stick of butter in the "bell" part. The only complaint I have is that sometimes I find lumps of butter floating in the water. I haven't figured out how to address this problem.
