works well
Although it's geared towards ceramix knives, it also sharpened several of my steel knives well - particularly the Japanese knives, which have thin blades and no supporting piece at the end of the blade. Only very thin knives will fit in this sharpener, so it's of some limited use.
I also didn't realize that it takes batteries - several AA size.

It Works!
I crossed my fingers and hoped I wouldn't have to send my knife away for sharpening. This sharpener works perfectly. It's not too big and I easily put it away in a corner. And, I haven't had to take it out. The blade is holding its edge. And it didn't eat up the 4 batteries I used. I just put them in other items.

I have sharp knives again :)
I have a ceramic knife I purchased about 10 years ago and had not been able to use it for some time. Now it is as sharp as the day I bought it. Love it.

Disappointment in Chefs description
It clearly states on the box that it doesn't restore the knives to original sharpness. To obtain original sharpness, you have to return knife to factory authorizrd site.
