Great value for the money and hard to find tools. Love this product! It is very well made, the layer ring is adjustable, the serrated knife is extra long and the cake lifter is firm enough to move each delicate layer of the torte. Originally, I thought the product advertised was for the cutting guide ring only. When I realized it was for the cake ring, cake lifter and knife I knew this was an excellent value for money. Once the layers are sliced, how do you get the slice out of the ring ?

The ring is put around the cake after baking and cooling: After the cake has cooled, you wrap the stainless steel slicing guide around the cake and fasten it in place, then you slice the cake with the ring in place. After the layers are sliced, you remove the ring from around the sides of the cake. Using the flat cake lifter, you gently slide it between the cut layers and remove the slices one at a time.

This is an 8-layer cake slicing mold that adjusts to fit 10"-11" round cakes. You can choose to cut this any way you like-using any of the 8 slicing sections. So yes, you could cut the cake in half using this item.

Hi Girlsmom. As far as the depth of the pan goes, a regular cake pan is fine. You will use as many of the slots as you have room for in your cake. Also, you can use your 8" pans. You just have to work a little more carefully because there will be more wiggle room inside the form. One of the best pans to consider is the Kaiser La Forme Springform Pan - which comes in a 10". I also suggest reading the reviews for this Cake slicing kit. A few people have posted their experiences and what they learned as a result.
