I know the product will last more than a life time (human), and being a scratch cook, I will be able to pulverize almost anything to the size & consistancy I want.

more than i expected
I CAN ONLY SAY THAT THIS MORTAR AND PESTLE WILL LAST A LIFETIME. NOT ONLY IS IT BEAUTIFUL, I COULDN"T BELIEVE THE WEIGHT AND CRAFTMANSHIP.THIS IS A GIFT FOR A SPECIAL SISTER-IN-LAW AND MANY WOMEN AND MEN WHO LOVE TO COOK AND PURCHASE QUALITY ITEMS ARE SURE TO BECOME CHEFS CUSTOMERS ALSO.

It is very heavy but attractive enough to leave on the counter. Exactly what a mortar and pestle should be.

Solid Kitchen Grinder!
I received this mortar and pestle as a gift and it was heavier and bigger than i expected. this is a plus though as it helps with stability while using it. It is solidly built and doesn't seem like it would crack or break even with heavy long-term use. the only negative aspect of it (which may only be because i'm a perfectionist) is that the mortar is slightly lop-sided on the outside. the center is great and it works wonderfully though. great gift for a food enthusiast.

Solid, Strong and Handsome -I love him
This is the first mortar and pestle I have owned and I love it. It is larger than I expected, but all the better for grinding without spilling over. And in solid granite it is strong and sturdy and stays put as you work. I love working with fresh whole spices because they offer a stronger flavor. Today I crushed cardamon pods and whole cloves to make Indian chai. Whereas in the past it would have taken a lot of time and effort to crush these with a rolling pin and clean up afterwards, it took no time at all and only a little pressure and a few twists to get perfect results. And the clean up was simple. I leave this mortar and pestle on my kitchen counter where it is handy and looks handsome. I would definitely recommend this to others who like working with fresh whole seeds and grains.

Wonderful Product - great quality!
I recently purchased this item and boy, am I glad I did! It grinds just about anything, and holds just the right amount inside. Don't be fooled about the weight - it is quite heavy! But it does the job well. The outside surface looks fabulous, with its nubby texture, but the inside surface lets you grind, crush or pulverize even, if need be. It's just great. I love it. I would highly recommend this item to anyone even remotely thinking of buying!

Rustic and nice
I already had the other granite mortar and pestle from the Chef's catalog, the one with a rough interior that is perfect for making guacamole but doesn't do so well for grinding spices. This one is the perfect complement. It's interior is very smooth and it is very heavy so you can grind away without it dancing around on the counter. I've given away all my old porcelain mortars since I got this one. Between the two granite ones I have, I can handle anything.
