Use and Care Instructions
• Fresh soapstone is light gray, but darkens when it absorbs food oils. If you prefer to preseason or "cure" the soapstone to make it dark immediately, wipe the entire disk with vegetable or olive oil and bake in 350 F oven for 1 to 2 hours. Turn off oven and let stone cool slowly. Once stone is cool, wash it warm soap and water and its ready for use.
• Hand-wash the natural soapstone disk in warm, soapy water. If something get baked on the stone, scrub the stone with a mild abrasive pad. This may cause the stone to lighten in scrubbed areas. To darken the stone just wipe with oil. Avoid using harsh abrasives on the soapstone.
• To prevent water spotting, after washing, rinse in hot water and dry immediately.
• Never put hot soapstone in cold water or damage may result. Do not place stone over a direct open flame. When placing hot stone or ring on the counter or tabletop, always use an insulated hot pad or board under the hot stone or ring.
• Before using the pizza ring tray for the first time, wash in hot soapy water with a sponge or dishcloth, then rinse in hot water and dry thoroughly. Ring tray is dishwasher-safe.
• To remove tarnish and darkening, use a commercial stainless-steel cleaner. Rub in a circular motion. Rinse in lukewarm water. Avoid using steel wool, steel scouring pads or harsh detergents on the ring tray.
