Nice pitter
This pitter works pretty good. Like the others have said, you need to go hard and fast. Make sure you watch that the pit has actually fallen into the bowl because they sometimes stay attached to the cherry. It's best to feed the cherries one at a time because they won't roll in consistently.

LEIFHEIT STONER
I love gagets & I love cherries; this is the greatest invention since sliced bread! So fast to depit the cherries, easy cleanup & small enough for easy storage. My ONLY complaint I would love to find stemless cherries?? I would recommend this to all cherry lovers!

Handy kitchen tool
I just pitted four pounds of cherries in record time. What would have taken me hours to do I did in less than 20 minutes. The only complaint I have is that some of the cherries would get stuck on the plunger. Still, I love this tool!

Fabulous invention
The brief season is finally here for fresh cherries. There's hardly anything as tasty as fresh cherries, whether eaten "as is" or in a pie or tart. Stoning cherries by hand is so laborious that few people are willing to do enough for a large pie or tart.
This Leifheit Cherry Stoner is worth its weight in gold! I stoned 4 pounds of cherries in just a few minutes. As each cherry rolls into the stoning cavity, press the lever down very hard and fast. This "hard and fast" method allows the stone to be pressed out and gives the cherry enough force to pop out of the spout into your bowl. If you stone the cherries without force, the cherry often stays in the stoning spout. Do it hard and fast!
I have already made a large tart, a pie, and have served fresh cherries for a healthy desert and snacks. I have frozen several packs to enjoy in the winter.
I highly recommend this very cost and time effective Leifheit Cherry Stoner without reservation.

Think twice, very messy
I found you needed to use a tremendous amount of force to remove the stone and dislodge the cherry from the plunger. The noise was loud enough to wake people on the second floor. There was a very large cleanup after the 3 uses. I did not want to base my opinion on 1 use. Cherry juice everywhere, including the ceiling. While the collection bin for the stones is quite large, and the bin for the cherries is large, you can still only pit 1 at a time. I instead purchased the OXO Good Grips Cherry stoner for $12.99. I can still only pit 1 cherry at a time, but the mess is contained because of a clear pass thru cup for the stone, and it can also be used for olives, just like this machine. I am returning my Leigheit and keeping the OXO.

Cherry Stoner?
We tried this cherry stoner once before returning it. It did a good job on small Bing cherries, and was actually fun to use. It seemed like a good and useful device for removing the pits from lots of cherries for something like a pie. However, our favorite cherries are Raniers, and we had a lot of large, juicy ones to try. This cherry stoner could not handle the Raniers and put them through with the pits intact. It seemed the pits were too large to be expelled through the part they go through, so they came out with the cherry.
So I would give this product mixed reviews. Great for the specific purpose of pitting small cherries rapidly with consistent results, and poor for pitting large cherries with any result whatsoever.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
After picking seven gallons of cherries, this little pitter made my life so much easier! In fact, I'm so in love with it, that I turned around and ordered another.
Every cherry season, I have been convincing friends they wanted to help me pit cherries, and recruiting senior citizens to help. I can pit cherries at least five times faster than with a hand pitter. Trust me, last year seven gallons of cherries would have taken far longer than 2 1/2 hours!
I also had very few missed pits (which were mentioned in other reviews). My tart cherries are smaller than a Bing, so on occasion, if two smaller sized ones got in the hopper opening at the same time, one would slide through. I just paid attention to the number of cherries flying out the chute, and rescuse the little stinker that slipped through
This week, if I had to choose between my car and this cherry pitter, it would be a hard decision!
The family cherry pie will live on!
