Caring for your Lodge Cast Iron

• Properly cared for, your Lodge cast iron cookware will last for more than a lifetime.
• After cooking, clean the cookware with hot water and a stiff brush. Never use a harsh detergent, as it can remove the seasoning. Towel dry thoroughly.
• While the cookware is dry, but still warm from the hot water bath, wipe a light coat of vegetable oil or cooking spray on all surfaces.
• Store in a cool, dry place. Do not store lids on the pot or pan in order to allow air circulation.
• If you notice a metallic taste of see signs of rust, simply scour off the rust, wash the cookware with soap and hot water, dry thoroughly and re-season using the home seasoning instructions.

Home Seasoning Instructions

• Seasoning is the process of applying a thin coat of cooking oil to the entire surface of the cookware, then baking the oil onto the cookware creating a natural nonstick finish.

• Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 F.

• Step 2: Wash the cookware (inside and out) with mild detergent using a stiff brush. Rinse and towel dry.

• Step 3: Spread or spray a thin coat of melted shortening or spray-on vegetable oil over the entire surface of the pan, including handle and exterior surfaces.

• Step 4: Lower both your oven racks to the two bottom positions. Line the lower rack with aluminum foil (to catch drippings), and place the cookware upside down on the middle rack of oven and bake for one hour. Turn the oven off and leave cookware in the oven until cool.

• Repeating the process will only further season the cookware, turning it darker and improving the appearance.

I'd be LOST without this! Through the course of having inherited several "heirloom" cast iron fry-pans, fryers and a dutch oven I'll never go back to manufactured non-stick or stainless steel. It's a perfect and HEALTHY medium in which to cook food. That being said, as many burgers, steaks and chicken breasts as I make on a weekly basis (family of 4 and 6 on weekends), firing up all 4 burners and washing 3-4 pans WAS getting to be a chore. Now with this reversible grill/griddle, I only have 1 item to prep, wash and put away. Lodge's pre-seasoning took the work out of starting from scratch and being cast-iron, I get even heat from one burner being smaller than the next. It's even done several tours of duty on an outside grill. Robustly made, a trouper in the kitchen and precision cooking qualities have made this a, if not THE, centerpiece and workhorse of my kitchen! BUY ONE!!! January 12, 2010

Lovin the Lodge I just received the double sided Lodge griddle for Christmas and I couldn't wait to use it. The loved that it arrives pre-seasoned! I have a gas stove and it's long enough to cover two burners. It heats evenly and did a great job on pancakes and steak. It's a little hefty at 16lbs but it cleans up in a snap with hot water. This is my first Lodge Logic product and I'm already thinking of adding to my collection. January 8, 2009

Love Lodge Logic I have several Lodge Logic pieces. I love every one of them! I use my double burner griddle at least two times a week, especially for getting great grill marks when we don't use our grill outdoors due to inclement weather. I just put the grill over two of our gas burners on the kitchen range and it's as if our steaks or chops were grilled outdoors! Some of the other Lodge Logic I have are the 12" square griddle pan and a square pan I use for corn bread. Lodge Logic is very easy to clean and season! October 19, 2007

I can now grill in any inclement weather! I have used Lodge cast iron pans in the past, and was very happy to find a grill/griddle that would cover the two burners on my gas stove. My grand children appreciate the large amount of pancakes, hot dogs, and hamburgers I can make at one time, My grilled sandwiches are perfect, and the grill steak, chops, and chicken are delicious. Bacon , eggs,browned sausage, even shrimp and scallops, The grill is heavy, but well worth the cooking results. May 15, 2013
