Grilled Gruyere Cheese Sandwich


4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
4 slices (1/2-inch thick) crusty, artisan-style sourdough bread
8 ounces Gruyere cheese, grated

Cooking Instructions

1. Spread butter evenly on both sides of each slice of bread. Put half the Gruyere cheese on one slice and half on another. Top with remaining bread slices.

2. Heat a 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium-low heat.

3. Place sandwiches in skillet and cook for 8 to 10 minutes on first side. Flip. Fry another 8 to 10 minutes. Cheese should be melted and each sandwich, golden brown and crusty on both sides.

4. Place sandwiches on cutting board. Slice in half. Serve hot. Makes 2 sandwiches.
